Crabs in TV Adverts II

Possibly the finest example of crabs advertising cars was seen on UK screens in 2002. Yet again these CG crabs were created by The Mill.

Images of the new Volvo S60 driving on Christmas Island are intercut with images of the Red Crab, Gecarcoidea natalis, crossing the road on its annual migration from the plateau to the Ocean to breed.

The superb handling of the Volvo allows the driver to dodge the many crabs crossing the road.

More information on the making of the advert can be found on The Mill's website.

Unfortunately not everyone has a Volvo and thousands of Red Crabs are crushed by vehicles crossing roads in Christmas Island. To minimise these deaths funnels and tunnels are being used on the major migration paths and road closures and detours are used during peak times.
